Vanilla - an inconspicuous fragrant miracle
We may not even realize it, but many memories are associated with vanilla. A refreshing popsicle during the hot summer, a sweet pudding on a dry autumn day, but also a penetrating aroma in the run-up to Christmas. Where did this aromatic spice come to us, and why is it so special?
It is not surprising that the vanilla scent will please almost everyone, since it is obtained from a species of orchids of the vanilla tree genus, it will take your breath away already during its growth. Vanilla originating from Madagascar is currently considered the best quality vanilla. But the very first vanilla comes from Mexico, where it was used to flavor drinks made from coffee beans and corn flour. It was imported to Europe in the middle of the 16th century. After saffron, it is the most expensive spice in the world.
If you haven't used vanilla while baking yet, it's time to fix it. Just as saffron can add an exceptional taste and color to food, vanilla also enhances the taste and aroma of all baked dishes. However, there is no need to overdo it with its quantity, instead of a pleasant taste we would end up with a bitter dessert. The vanilla aroma and taste stand out best if it is added to a product that will no longer be heat-treated.
Types of vanilla flavors:
Vanilla flavor - a mixture of vanilla pods and other ingredients. Its advantage is a lower price compared to pure vanilla and a distinct smell, so you only need to use a few drops.
